Savage has been worried that the Chippewa art form of weaving with
sweet grass is in danger of being lost. He found
teachers of the dying art and developed techniques of cultivating the sweet
Sweet grass is traditionally a woman's plant.
The baskets are made from aromatic sweet grass, birch bark, and cotton threads. Designs are made with the various shades of birch bark (from golden brown to dark brown).
